The Government of Canada provides income tax credits for registered apprentices. Indigenous peoples and persons with disabilities may be eligible for additional tax credits.  

The Canada Apprentice Loan offers interest-free loans to help registered apprentices with the cost of their training.

The Employment Program of British Columbia (EPBC) provides financial support to apprentices through a network of WorkBC Apprentice Services.

SkilledTradesBC can offer an accommodation, based on your needs, to help you complete exams. This includes use of interpreters, readers, language dictionaries, additional time, and more.

If you have extensive experience in your trade, you may be eligible to challenge the certification exam as a Trade Qualifier and become certified.

If you have some practical experience in your trade but do not yet qualify for the certification exam, you may be eligible to challenge level exams to demonstrate your skills and knowledge and enter the apprenticeship program at the appropriate level.

Implementation of Skilled Trades Certification is currently underway. Each trade has a one-year transition period, which will allow uncertified workers to register as an apprentice or become certified by challenging a certification exam. 

By requiring tradespeople to become a certified journeyperson or a registered apprentice, Skilled Trades Certification helps ensure you have a highly skilled workforce.

If you have some practical experience in a Skilled Trades Certification (compulsory) trade but haven’t completed an apprenticeship program, you may be eligible to challenge a level.
