Important Update: Exams, Registration and Certification Services Impacted by Job Action

Last Updated: October 28, 2025

Following the conclusion of the BC General Employees’ Union (BCGEU) job action, we are now working closely with our partners, Service BC and BC Mail Plus, to restore normal exam operations as quickly as possible. Please find the latest updates on service recommencement below.

Canada Post service disruptions continue to affect the delivery of apprenticeship registration packages.

Exams

  • Candidates affected by the cancellation of exams scheduled between October 7 to November 14 will be notified directly in the coming weeks to reschedule their exam as available.

  • Exams scheduled from November 17 and onward will proceed as normal.

  • New exam bookings remain on hold for the time being.

  • Processing times for receiving exam results may take longer than usual.

Certification Printing and Distribution

  • Recently certified journeypersons may experience delays in receiving their printed certificates.

  • Journeypersons with certificates issued in B.C. after January 28, 2009 can view their certificate numbers through their Portal account.

  • Anyone who needs to verify a certification can use the online verification tool.

  • Individuals who require proof of certification urgently for employment or exceptional circumstances can contact Customer Service. Urgent requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Apprenticeship Registration

  • Canada Post's rotating strikes may cause delays in the delivery of apprenticeship registration packages. In the meantime, apprentices and sponsors can access their confirmation of registration through their Portal accounts and emails.

We recognize the inconvenience and disruption to apprentices and trade workers and appreciate your patience and understanding. We remain committed to supporting affected individuals and resuming full services as soon as possible.

If you have any questions, please contact Customer Service for assistance.

FAQs

Q: When can I reschedule my exam?

A: You will receive an email with details and instructions when your exam is ready to be rescheduled. As our partners are still in the process of returning their operations to normal capacity, timelines for rescheduling may vary and full service restoration is expected to take some time.

There will be no rescheduling fee.

Q: I was advised by my school that my blended Standard Level Exam has been waived. Has that changed now? How will that affect my mark?

A: Regardless of strike resolution, in-class blended Standard Level Exams from October 7 to December 31, 2025 are waived. We will use your in-class technical training result as the final mark for that level.

Q: My exam materials arrived at the Service BC office. When can I book my exam?

A: Service BC is currently in the process of returning their operations to normal capacity. You will be contacted directly to schedule, once available.

Q: I am a Trade Qualifier with a challenge application expiring in October. My scheduled exam was cancelled. What will happen to my application?

A: You will receive an automatic extension on your challenge application. You will be contacted to reschedule once normal operations resume after the strike ends. There will be no rescheduling fee.
