Drywall Finisher and Plasterers are precise and tactile professionals who enjoy bringing an interior close to the finish—providing the solid and well-presented base that allows for the final touches on a job.

As a Drywall Finisher and Plasterer, you’ll work in a highly physical and hands-on role that will see you through a range of tasks. This includes preparing drywall for finishing, applying tape and fill and sanding all surfaces to ensure they are ready for paint. The work will test your physical and mental stamina, but also immensely rewarding, seeing your progress come to life.

  • Note: The Certificate of Qualification pathway is closed as of April 1, 2026. The Certificate of Qualification Exam is available for approved challengers until March 31, 2028.

Notes:

  • There is a delay in the implementation of the Red Seal exam. Information on the implementation of the Red Seal exam will be posted as soon as available.

  • If you are not certified and are wanting to challenge the Red Seal exam, you may submit your challenge application as of April 1, 2026. Instructions and forms are available at the bottom of this page. 

  • If you are a BC Certification of Qualification holder who wishes to challenge the Red Seal exam, please await further updates, or email programstandards@skilledtradesbc.ca for more information.

Challenge the Certification Exam

If you have work experience in the trade but have never been certified in Canada, you may be eligible to challenge the certification exam as a Trade Qualifier to become certified without going through an apprenticeship program. 

If you have some practical experience but do not yet qualify for the certification exam, you may be eligible to challenge a level exam to enter the program at the appropriate level.
