Registration Checklist

You want to be successful in training for your trades career, so before you sign up, make sure you’re prepared. Ask yourself:

Are you choosing the right trade?

Do you have what it takes?

Some apprenticeships have pre-requisites. They may require you to have some experience in the trade or have taken a pre-apprenticeship foundation program. Check out the pre-requisite section of your trade’s program profile to be sure that you meet the requirements to begin an apprenticeship.

Have you talked to your employer sponsor?

Talk to your employer about expectations. Important questions to ask are:

  • Will you be working inside or outside?
  • Will you need to travel to different job sites?
  • Where does your employer recommend you take your technical training?
  • Will you be dealing with people, numbers or tools?
  • What makes apprentices successful in your trade?
  • Are there any pitfalls to avoid?

Your employer will be glad you’re enthusiastic and doing your homework. Communicating with your employer is a great way to succeed.
